Yes, I own many of records. A number most “normal” people would probably call insane. However, I wouldn’t think of myself as a “collector”. Record collecting can get pretty obsessive at times, and I’m too easygoing for that. Sure, there are some bands and artists I care about enough to hunt down singles, bootlegs, or alternate pressings, but for the most part, I just enjoy collecting music that fits my taste, which is a bit broad.

When I started this website back in 2013, the first post was about reorganizing my records. All these years later, I still haven’t gotten around to it. In the meantime, many newly bought items have entered the picture, making the task even more complicated. So yes, my records are unsorted, and that somehow reflects the nature of these pages, which cover, in a somewhat random fashion, music genres quite different from each other. That’s just what I like, and it’s not going to change, even on the day I finally put some order into that chaos.

This site is meant to share a few stories about records and music with anyone who might be interested. As an avid music fan, I always enjoyed reading this kind of thing on blogs written by fellow music lovers, so I thought, why not try something similar myself?

Besides “From the shelves” picks (articles covering whatever record I’ve been revisiting) and random posts about vinyl records or music in general, the site includes some semi-regular columns:

• Unvinyl generally covers music that, at the time of writing, is not available on vinyl.
• Song Story pieces together trivia and facts about a song by a major artist, either a deep cut or a signature tune.
• Amp Hiss & Memories revisits concerts I’ve attended, both in the past and more recently.

I have been writing about music for almost 30 years, first on fanzines, then for several print magazines. Some of the material on Unsorted Records comes from articles and interviews I did over the years, translated into English (the original articles were in Italian), repurposed or expanded. Sometimes it’s just about the music, sometimes it’s about memories and what that music means to me.
