    15 YEARS TO MIDNIGHT

    Midnight – Sakada (2005)

When ‘Sakada’ came out in 2005, it was quite a surprise, as ex–Crimson Glory frontman Midnight (born John Patrick McDonald) had been out of the music business for almost a decade and a half …

    GLITCHIN’ ALL THE WAY

The little imperfections of homemade tapes are gone: skips, glitches, and accidental bits of other recordings no longer have the chance to become part of the songs. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but try telling that to our brains …

    AS THE CROW FLIES

    Crowhead – Frozen (2002)

Some records, revisited in hindsight years after their release, may sound like unfinished business. Not half-baked, but in the sense of possibility: albums that seem to point toward something larger …

    TRANE OF THE CENTURY

There are so many musicians, legendary and not, that I deeply admire and who are gone. I don’t remember the birthdate of most of them, if I ever knew it. For some reason, this doesn’t happen with John Coltrane …

    LE FREAK IN THE WOODS

It’s always a pleasure to flip through pages filled with lovely pictures of nature and animals. You will probably agree that it’s about the last place where I’d expect to stumble across one of my musical idols: funk legend Nile Rodgers …

Nu Creative Methods – Superstitions (1984)

Let’s take the long way round and start with Nurse With Wound, a key name from the first wave of British industrial, well known to anyone with a taste for abrasive, unconventional sounds. That’s our starting point for a very specific reason …

    WELCOME TO THE DAHLHAUS

As previously mentioned, most of my teenage years were spent dealing with stamps and mail: writing letters, tape trading, printing fanzines… Sure, I had my fair share of football (soccer) and basketball games with my friends, but more often than

    FLY ME TO THE MOON

The Moon – The Moon (1998)

The press release boldly billed them as ‘The Who Meets The Beatles’. Behind the claim was The Moon, a band of Dutch rockers who’d traded leather and swagger for a more classic touch. Indeed, they were not rookies …

    CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO ERAS

This concert captured a crucial moment in Anathema’s career. After morphing from their gothic/doom metal beginnings to a mellower sound blending a wide range of influences, they had been without a record deal for some time and were about to relaunch …

    ABOUT ME

When I started this website back in 2013, my record collection was unsorted, and all these years later, I still haven’t gotten around to it. That somehow reflects the nature of these pages, which cover, in a somewhat random fashion, music genres quite different from each other. That’s just what I like. And it’s not going to change, even on the day I finally put some order into that chaos.

This space is just intended to share some nice stories about records or music with whoever may be interested. As an avid music fan, I was fond of reading stories about music and records on blogs written by fellow music lovers, hence the idea of sharing mine.

If you wanna get in touch you can drop a line to unsortyourlifeout(at)gmail.com. READ MORE
